Amish and Mennonites

ne of Robert Roché's favorite subjects is rural farm life. His warmth and feeling for country people is probably best expressed in the paintings of the Amish and Mennonites.

Having spent a great deal of time over the years on farms throughout the country, his understanding of farmers and their way of living enabled him to be accepted by these people and to work amongst them; a privilege not usually accorded to "outlanders".

Amish Elders

These paintings of Amish elders and children are part of a series of paintings done in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he worked and lived with the Amish and painted the Amish and Mennonites. They posed on their farms as they are portrayed here.
